In October, The Flava People proudly announced it had reached its goal of raising £30,000 for the non-profit initiative, Community Grocery. This remarkable achievement will bring a new Community Grocery store to Wythenshawe, Manchester, offering vital support to around 55,000 families. In addition to raising the targeted amount, The Flava People also ran 15 volunteer events with the team donating 960 hours to date, supporting across operation, community clear ups and hosting four community cook-up events to further assist the local community.
To celebrate reaching this milestone, The Flava People recently presented the cheque, marking a significant step in supporting many families across South Manchester.
Intended to bridge the gap between food banks and discount supermarkets, each Community Grocery store brought down the cost of the weekly shop for over 55,000 families impacted by food poverty. Running on the goodwill of volunteers and donations, Community Grocery supported over 55,000 families approximately 150,000 people with over 15 million meals, saving 5,600 tonnes of surplus food from landfill in the process.
